Can we talk about the guy who tried to quiz me on obscure Silver Age Batman issues at a con last Saturday?
This dude at the Dallas Fan Expo cornered me by the dollar bins and demanded I name the villain from Batman #156 before he'd let me grab a comic. I froze up and he laughed, saying I wasn't a "real fan" because I couldn't recall a one-off Riddler story from 1964. Has anyone else dealt with gatekeepers like this at shows?

Ugh, that's such a classic move from the "I read the wiki once" types. Real fans know we all blank on random details sometimes, especially one-shot villains from the 60s. Sorry you had to deal with that nonsense, hopefully you found some solid books after he wandered off.

yeah @iris394 nailed it honestly. the wiki warriors are the worst because they act like memorizing a trivia page makes them a gatekeeper. but real fandom is being able to laugh when you forget something dumb like a villain who showed up for two panels in 1967 and never came back. i mean, i've been reading this stuff since i was a kid and i still mix up character names all the time. the best comic shops are the ones where the staff just shrugs and helps you track down the issue anyway, no judgment. hope you ran into a few of those people after he dipped out.
