Guy at my local shop in Cincinnati told me my pull list was 'too safe' and it stuck with me for weeks
Tbh I was at a comic shop on Vine St about three weeks ago and the guy behind the counter glanced at my pull list and said I was buying the same five hero books every month and never trying anything new. He wasn't mean about it, just blunt, and he pulled a small press book off the shelf and said 'read this one, it's four bucks, worst case you're out a coffee.' I bought it, and honestly it was better than half the stuff I'd been grabbing out of habit for the past year. The weird part is I kept thinking about that comment for days, like it was a dare. Now I'm second guessing whether my whole box is just comfort buying. Has anyone else had a shop employee call out their habits like that, and did it actually change what you pick up?
Back in 2019 a guy at my shop in Columbus did the same thing to me, and I started doing a rule where every 5th book on my list has to be something I've never heard of. It stopped feeling like comfort buying after a few months.
