I compared reading a floppy vs a trade paperback for the same series...

Last month I picked up issue 4 of a new series at my local shop in Austin, then read the first trade paperback right after. The single issue had way better pacing because of the cliffhanger on page 20, but the trade let me see the full arc without waiting. Now I'm wondering if I should just stick to trades for older runs and keep singles for the newer stuff... what do you all do?

oh totally get what you're saying, I've been going back and forth on this exact thing. for me it honestly depends on the series and how invested I am. like if it's something I'm already hooked on from word one I'll grab singles at the shop every month because the whole waiting game and building hype with other fans is half the fun. but for older runs that are already complete I'll just hunt down the trades on ebay or at a con, it's way easier and cheaper than trying to piece together back issues. the only problem is when a series has a massive overarching plot that pays off way better in chunks rather than monthly snippets, that's when trades really shine for me.

My buddy Steve spent like three years collecting every single issue of Locke & Key one by one from random dollar bins. He finally finished it last month and realized he spent more on gas driving to different shops than he did on the actual comics. Now he just waits for the hardcover collections to hit Half Price Books six months after they come out.
