Seeing a fan boast about sealed bags at a con led me to a weird take
I was at a comic con last month and overheard a guy bragging about how many mint condition books he had sealed in plastic. He knew all the values but could not tell me anything about the stories inside. It struck me that some fans treat comics like stocks instead of art. Look at how people chase first appearances just for resale, ignoring great runs like Starman or Hellboy. Does not that miss why we got into comics in the first place? I feel the hobby is richer when we talk about what happens in the pages, not what they might sell for. Am I the only one who thinks this way?

Had a similar chat with a speculator at my local shop. I pulled out a beat-up copy of 'Kingdom Come' and talked about the art, and he actually got into the story. What's the last comic you read just for fun?

Beat-up copies of classics always feel more authentic to me.

My pristine hardcovers feel more special, but @charlie_hayes50 has a point.
