That Saturday at the Akron con when a $5 box beat my whole pull list
Two summers back I hit a small comic con in Akron with maybe 40 tables and a budget of $60. I was ready to just grab a couple of new issues and call it, but this older guy had a long box marked 5 for $10 and I figured why not. Ended up with a beat up copy of a random 90s X book, a Groo issue I had never seen, and three indie books I had zero clue about. Got home, read them all in one sitting, and honestly that stack hit harder than the big two books I paid $5 each for at the same show. The indie stuff felt like it was made by people who just really wanted to tell that story, not hit a deadline. My pull list has changed a lot since then, but I still chase that feeling of a cheap box full of surprises. What is the best no-name stack you ever pulled out of a dollar bin?
