Hit 500 commercial dives logged and I'm not sure the number means what I thought it did
I finally marked dive 500 in my logbook last month after a job down in Port Fourchon, and it honestly felt like nothing special. Some guys in this trade act like a big log number is proof you know what you're doing, while others say it just means you've been lucky enough not to get hurt yet. My first 100 dives taught me more than the last 400, mostly because I was scared every time I got wet back then. So which is it, does the count actually matter, or is it really just about the quality of the work and the people you come up with?
Ha, I totally get this! I hit a big number myself a while back and it felt about as exciting as doing laundry, because the dives that actually made me better were the scary ones where I was still figuring things out.
