Had to choose between a magnesium float and a steel trowel for a 40-yard warehouse slab last week. Went with the magnesium for the first pass. The finish came out smoother than I expected, but I'm second-guessing if steel would have given it that extra shine.

My uncle swears by steel for that mirror look, but he's a bit of a perfectionist.

Yeah, it's like putting a band-aid on a crack in the foundation. Sure, it looks slick for a minute, but you're not fixing anything. That high polish just makes every new scratch and fingerprint stand out even more. Give me an honest brushed finish any day.
