I finally stopped troweling wet and learned to wait on bull floats
I used to be the guy who jumped on the bull float the second the pour was done, thinking faster meant flatter. Last month on a 40-yard garage slab in Fresno, the finisher I was helping pulled me aside and said 'let it bleed a bit or you'll just be chasing your own water.' I tried his way, waited about 20 minutes longer, and the surface came out way tighter with almost no mopping. Now I tell every new guy I see: if you're dragging a wet slick, you're making the next pass twice as rough. Has anyone else had to unlearn that early-trowel habit, or do you swear by getting on it quick?

Ha, good lesson but I gotta call you out on one thing, timing on bull floating ain't the same for every mix or weather. That 20 minute wait works in Fresno heat, but try that on a cool morning or a wetter mix and you'll be fighting a stiff surface instead of chasing water. You're on the right track though, reading the bleed water beats racing the clock every time.
