Unpopular opinion: my old boss was wrong about broom finishing driveways
He told me to always use a stiff broom and water on every job, but after I tried a medium broom dry on a 500 square foot driveway last summer, the texture held up way better through winter. Has anyone else ditched the water trick and seen better results?

A buddy of mine tried the wet broom method on his own driveway a few years back and ended up with these weird water stains that never really faded. He switched to a dry medium broom on his next pour and said it was the best decision he ever made for that kind of work.

My 600 square foot job last fall proved the dry medium broom method works just as well. I went through two gallons of water with a stiff broom and still got inconsistent lines, but the dry approach gave me a uniform texture across the whole slab. The lack of water also meant no puddling in low spots, which was always a headache for me during winter freeze-thaw cycles.

Oh man, you're preaching to the choir on this one. I did a 400 square foot patio last spring and had the exact same headache with water pooling in the low spots. That stiff broom with water just made a mess of inconsistent lines everywhere, I was so frustrated. Then I tried the dry method on a small walkway and it was like night and day. The texture came out even across the whole thing, no weird splotches or puddles to worry about. And for freeze-thaw cycles, that's a huge plus. Why would anyone deal with the water mess when you get better results without it?
