The $70 'emergency' toolbox I bought three years ago finally paid for itself last night
So I keep this little red toolbox in my trunk, the one with the cheap socket set and jumper cables I grabbed off a clearance rack back in 2021. Everyone joked I was being paranoid, carrying tools around like I was fixing to rebuild a semi on the shoulder of I-95. Well, last night around 11 PM my battery died in the parking lot of a 24-hour laundromat out near the county line. AAA said an hour and a half wait. I popped the hood, grabbed those cables, and a guy in a pickup stopped within five minutes to give me a jump. That little box cost me roughly the price of two tow truck calls, and it saved me sitting in the dark watching sketchy folks walk by. The weird part is I started thinking about how most 'preppers' load up on freeze-dried food and guns but never think about the simple stuff like a basic wrench set or a $10 tire gauge. Has anyone else had a random cheap tool or emergency item that just sat there for years until one moment made the whole purchase worth it? What was yours and how much did you drop on it?

Tire gauge is the sleeper pick here. Ten bucks and it saves you from a blowout at 70 mph. Mine sat in the glovebox for like four years before I actually needed it.
