Used to swear by flat earth theory, math from a cargo pilot changed my mind
I was deep into flat earth forums for about 3 years. Watched all the videos, thought I had it figured out. Then I talked to a cargo pilot who flies from LA to Tokyo every week. He showed me his flight logs and actual fuel calculations based on great circle routes. The numbers just didn't add up for a flat model, the distances were off by hundreds of miles. I rewound and checked his math three times before I believed it. Has anyone else here changed their view after talking to someone in a related field?

oh man, same exact thing happened to me but with a different pilot? i was all in on the flat earth stuff for like 2 years, watched every video, argued with everyone. then my buddy's dad who flies planes for fedex showed me his actual flight path printouts from overseas trips. the fuel math alone was wild, like they'd have to carry way more fuel if the distances were flat, and that would mess up weight limits and landing stuff. i felt so dumb after checking it all out, but honestly it's cool when real world proof just smacks you in the face like that. glad you got out of it too, that rabbit hole is deep.

The fuel math is what got me too. My brother works for Delta and he walked me through the numbers for a 747 crossing the Pacific, and it just broke everything I thought I knew. Real world data hits different when someone who does it every day shows you the proof.
