Went to Area 51's backyard last month and something felt off
I drove out to Rachel, Nevada to check out the Black Mailbox and the back gate of Area 51. What caught my attention was a white unmarked van parked exactly 0.7 miles from the gate every single day at 4 PM. My buddy says it's just security contractors doing their rounds, but I think it's a signal relay point for something else. Anyone else notice weird vehicle patterns near restricted spots or am I just seeing patterns where there aren't any?

...and see, that's the thing about the Black Mailbox area, people get a little too caught up in the patterns without checking the facts first. The mailbox itself isn't even there anymore, it got moved years ago, so if you're using that as a landmark you're probably just hunting ghosts. As for the van, you said 0.7 miles from the gate, but I've mapped that road a dozen times and there's a pull-off exactly at 0.68 miles where maintenance crews stage their gear. Your buddy is right, it's just contractors, but more importantly, you gotta double check your distances because a few hundred feet off changes everything when you're looking for a signal relay.

All due respect, but that 0.02 mile difference is splitting hairs when we're talking about radio shadow zones. The signal relay at that spot is still tied to the old mailbox coordinates because the FCC database never got updated after the move. I've seen the filings myself, the license still references the original GPS pin. So even if the physical mailbox is gone, the official record says the relay point is still there, not at your 0.68 pull off. And about the van, maintenance crews don't roll up in unmarked white cargo vans with no logos at 3am on a Tuesday, that's a pretty big tell if you ask me.
