A regular client demanded a perm right after coloring, and I said no.

Was I right to refuse, or should I have done what they paid for?

Have you ever had a client who just wouldn't listen about how bad that is? You were 100% right to say no, no question about it. I had someone last year who wanted a full bleach and a perm in the same week, and I had to shut it down hard. Their hair would have literally broken off, and then who gets blamed? Us, the stylists. It's not just about doing what they pay for, it's about protecting them from causing real damage. Did your client understand after you explained, or were they still mad?

Oh hell no you were totally right. That would have fried their hair into actual straw, like chemically you just can't do that back to back. They paid for a service but they don't get to demand something that will ruin their hair. Part of your job is protecting clients from their own bad ideas, even if they get mad about it. You saved them from a disaster.

Remember that scene in movies where hair turns to straw and breaks off? That's not special effects, that's what happens with a perm right after color. You were right to say NO unless you wanted to hand them a bag of their own HAIR as a souvenir. Some clients think we're magicians, but even magic has RULES. Saving someone from a hair disaster is way better than dealing with the fallout later.
