A wedding party in Phoenix taught me to pack a backup for everything

I was doing updos for a bridal party of six last summer, and my main curling iron gave out halfway through the third bridesmaid. It just died, no warning. I was in a hotel suite with no store nearby, and the ceremony was in two hours. I had to finish three more complex styles with just a flat iron and some bobby pins. It was pure panic for a minute. I ended up doing these twisted, piecey looks that actually looked way more modern than what we planned. The bride loved it, said it was 'meant to be.' Now my kit has two of every hot tool, no matter what. Has anyone else had a crucial piece of gear fail at the worst possible moment?

Two of every hot tool" is the only way to go. I keep a cheap backup wand in my kit that's saved me more than once.

Honestly that sounds like a nightmare lol. Backup tools are a total lifesaver, I learned that the hard way too. My old blow dryer smoked out right before a big event once, never again. Now I pack doubles like it's my religion.
