Found my old appointment book from 3 years ago in a box of stuff from my first chair at the salon in Springfield.
I was looking at the notes I wrote for each client, like 'client hates the smell of perm solution' or 'brings her own conditioner', and I realized I don't write any of that down anymore, I just keep it in my head. Last month, a regular came in and I remembered her kid's name from a story she told once, and her face just lit up. Do you guys still keep detailed client notes, or is it all memory now?

I used to write everything down too. Now I just use the notes app on my phone for the little things, way easier to search.

My mom's old address book had a whole page for each friend, with their kids' names and favorite flowers. Now my contacts are just a phone number. It's like @jake_martin16 said, the notes app is where the real stuff lives. I bet we all stopped writing things down when our phones became our brains. We trust memory for the personal touch, but I wonder what gets lost. That client's face lighting up is the whole point, right? How do you make sure you don't forget that stuff?

I was just reading something about how our brains treat those little details like trivia, so they're the first to go when you're busy. I keep a few key things in my phone notes, like allergies or a big event they mentioned, but the small talk stuff I try to remember. It feels more personal that way, like you actually listened and cared, not just read a file.
