Had a lightbulb moment about foundation matching

I was doing a bridal makeup job and the foundation looked perfect inside. But in sunlight, it was totally the wrong shade. What's your go-to way to check color matches in different light?

I used to trust bathroom lighting completely until I did a friend's wedding makeup. Looked fine in her hallway, but in the group photos outside she looked straight up orange. Now I always check in the worst light possible, like right by a window. If it looks okay there, it will pass anywhere. Car windows are also weirdly good for catching bad matches.

Okay, @lilyanderson, that wedding makeup turning orange is so bad. Once bought a foundation that looked good under store lights, but in my office's bright lights, it was totally gray. Car windows show everything, caught a blush mismatch there that made me look weird. Daylight by a window is the best test, like if it works there, you're set. Never trusting bathroom bulbs again after hearing your story, for real.

My friend's prom makeup looked green in the gym lights.
