My mentor told me to use a trimmer for baby hairs and I ignored her for 6 months

I thought I knew better than my old boss at Shear Perfection in Austin because I watched some YouTube guru who said clippers were fine. So I kept using my Andis clippers on those fine baby hairs around the nape and getting these random patches. Finally tried her method with my T-outliner last week and the difference is insane - no more spotting or uneven lines. Why did I waste half a year being stubborn? Has anyone else had a senior stylist's advice turn out to be totally right after you fought it for a while?

Is it just me or does this pattern show up everywhere, not just in hair? @jake_martin16 nailed it when they pointed out the tool difference, and I think that same stubborn pride makes us ignore stuff in other areas too. Like how my dad refused to use a pressure washer on our deck because a YouTuber said a scrub brush was better, and it took him three weekends instead of one afternoon. Or how my friend insisted on using a butter knife to open paint cans because she thought screwdrivers were overkill. Eventually you learn that people with more experience, even if they sound old school, usually have a solid reason for their advice. So what's the real hold up when we know deep down they're probably right?

She said trimmer for baby hairs and I was like nah clippers are fine too." That part got me. You mentioned Andis clippers but those are for bulk work not detail stuff. The T-outliner is basically a trimmer not the same thing. Your mentor was probably talking about that type of trimmer not the big clippers. Easy mistake though.
