Rant: Popular opinion on single-process color is backwards

Everyone says single-process color ruins your hair over time. I disagree. I have done single-process red for 8 years straight. My hair is healthier now than when I was doing highlights and lowlights every 4 months. Less processing means less damage in my book. I see way more breakage from those complicated foil patterns. Has anyone else stuck with a simple single-process routine and seen their hair get better over years instead of worse?

I read this one time from a hair scientist at some beauty expo I went to in 2018 where she said the main damage from color comes from the developer strength and how often you overlap old color, not from the color itself. So if you're doing single-process red every 4-6 weeks with 20 volume like I do, you're only coloring new growth mostly and leaving the old alone. That makes way more sense to me than those highlight patterns where they have to pull through the whole length every time. My stylist back in Phoenix used to tell me the same thing, she said she saw more fried ends from trendy babylights than from women who just went full color for years. Your bathroom sink does sound like mine though, I just bought dark towels specifically for the bleeding.

Eight years of single-process red? That's like saying you've been married to the same shade of fire engine for almost a decade and your hair is the one that came out ahead. I tried that once and my bathroom sink looked like a crime scene for three months straight. Your stylist must charge you for extra towels just to cover the obvious betrayal.
