Rant: the beauty supply on 47th in Bronzeville had me rethinking how I stock my kit
I stopped by a beauty supply on 47th in Bronzeville last Saturday to grab some foil and combs, and I ended up walking out with nothing because I spent 20 minutes just watching how they set up the front shelves. They had a whole wall of the exact shears and clips I use every day, but sorted by how often people ask for them instead of by brand, and the clerk told me they rearrange it every 2 weeks based on what sells. I run my own station at a salon in Hyde Park, and I keep my tools crammed in the same order I bought them 4 years ago, which is probably why I dig around for 5 minutes every time a client sits down. It hit me that if a small shop can track what customers actually reach for, I could do the same with my kit and maybe stop losing time between appointments. I came home and dumped everything on my kitchen table, and I had 3 pairs of shears I never touch and about 40 bobby pins that were all bent out of shape. The clerk also mentioned they do a drawer restock for stylists on Sundays, which I might try since my setup clearly needs help. Has anyone else changed how they organize their station after seeing a supply store do it a certain way, or am I overthinking a shelf layout?
