Switched from foil highlights to balayage 2 years ago and my back thanks me every single day

Used to do foils for like 10 years. Back pain was insane. Hunched over the bowl for hours. Then I took a class in Austin back in 2022 and learned balayage. Now I'm standing straight most of the time and clients love how grown out looks. Anyone else make the switch and never look back?

Oh man, yes! I made the same switch about three years back and my lower back is forever grateful. The hunched over position for foils was just brutal, especially on those full head highlights. One thing that helped me transition was investing in a good adjustable styling chair that tilts forward just slightly. That way when I do have to do foils for certain clients, I'm not bending so much. Also, practice doing balayage with your arm at a 90 degree angle to your body, it saves your shoulder too. My clients actually prefer the softer grown out look now, nobody misses those harsh regrowth lines.

That 90 degree angle tip is actually genius, I'm totally trying that tomorrow.
