The $12 haircut I got in a strip mall changed my whole approach

I was down in Phoenix for a cousin's wedding and walked into this tiny shop with one chair, the stylist used a razor on my dry hair and now I'm asking everyone who does my color if they've ever tried that, has anyone else had a cut that made them rethink their tools?

The razor on dry hair sounds terrifying and amazing at the same time. My last cut was a $8 barber special where I walked out looking like a startled hedgehog, so I'm probably not the best person to give tool advice.
