Hot take: split screen beat online for us and a dead router in Austin proved it
Our wifi went out during a storm here in Austin two weeks ago and my buddy and I just passed one controller back and forth on Halo 3 for four hours. Honestly it was more fun than the 12 player online nights we do now. Anybody else think couch co-op hits harder when the internet is gone?
The thing is though, split screen was only magic because of the limits. Halo 3 on a couch meant screen peeking, shoving, yelling at your buddy in the same room, all that stuff. Online nights give you way more people to play with and you don't need everyone to drive across town. A dead router just forces you back into what you already had, it doesn't make it better. We played GoldenEye split screen back in the day too and half the fun was being in the same room. But I wouldn't trade that for having 12 friends on any night of the week, internet or not.
