My game night controller died mid-boss fight and taught me a lesson

Last Saturday we were fighting the final boss in Castle Crashers and my wireless Xbox controller just cut out. Battery died right as I was going for the block. We all wiped and had to restart the whole level. Now I keep a set of rechargeable AAs charged up and swap them before any session. Anyone else had a controller die at the worst possible moment?

Oh man, have I been there? My controller died mid-Halo match and I got so mad I nearly yeeted it across the room. I literally keep a backup set of batteries in a little pouch near my couch now, like some kind of gamer survival kit. Maybe I should just tape a note on my controller that says "charge me or face the consequences" for my own good.

Used to think wired controllers were for tryhards and just went wireless for the convenience. Then my controller died during a clutch moment in a fighting game tournament and I lost the match because of it. That was the moment I realized I was wrong about wired being unnecessary. Now I strictly use a wired controller for anything competitive or serious. Rechargeable AAs are a good solution too though, I still use those for casual gaming.
