My mind is blown by how many people still play this one old co-op game

I was looking at the Steam charts yesterday and saw that 'Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime' still has over a thousand people playing it right now. That's a game from 2015! It made me realize how much staying power a really good couch co-op concept has. What other older games still have an active player base for local play?

Staying power" is a strong way to put it... a thousand players is basically a rounding error on Steam. It's neat it has fans, but that's not really an active scene.

What's your cutoff for an active scene then? A thousand daily players can support regular tournaments, a healthy modding community, and constant matchmaking. Games like Natural Selection 2 or classic arena shooters run on those numbers for years. It's not a blockbuster, but it's a real community.
