Rant: That $70 'party bundle' board game that flopped hard

Honestly, I dropped $70 on that boxed party game with the big plastic spinner and 8 mini-games last month, and it was a total dud. The rules were so clunky we spent 20 minutes just figuring out round two, and two of the mini-games were literally the same thing with different colors. My group of five gave up after 45 minutes and went back to Jackbox, which cost way less and actually works. Ngl, I feel like the box art sold me a lie about 'instant fun' that just isn't there. Has anyone else burned cash on a hyped couch co-op game that tanked your game night, and what did you replace it with?

and honestly that tracks with how most "premium" party games are these days, they throw a bunch of plastic at you and hope you don't notice the mechanics are shallow. it's like the board game industry forgot that the best game nights are the ones where people are laughing at each other, not squinting at a rulebook. my group swapped to a $15 card game that's basically just social deduction and we've never looked back.
