Talked to a dude at an estate sale that changed how I store my retro cartridges
I was at this estate sale in Royal Oak last Saturday picking through boxes when this older guy saw me handling some NES games. He told me he kept his collection in a basement for 15 years and lost about half of them to moisture and temp swings without even realizing it until it was too late. Said his carts looked fine on the outside but the boards inside were corroded and some labels just peeled right off. Made me go home and check my closet that shares a wall with the bathroom. Has anyone else had hidden damage from stuff like attic heat or pipe condensation that you didn't catch for years?

That pipe condensation thing is real scary since it can creep up on you without any warning...

Notice it with other stuff too like drywall or wood framing in basements. People don't realize moisture builds up slowly until the damage is already done and you got mold or rot. Reminds me of how I let a small leak under my sink go for months 'cause I couldn't see it, then had to rip out the whole cabinet. These little things just sneak up on you if you're not paying attention.
