Dropped $600 on a load moment indicator for my old 40 ton and it already caught a bad pick
Was doing a rooftop HVAC swap in Nashville last Tuesday and the alarm went off at 82 percent capacity, turns out my chart was way off for that radius. Anyone else running an LMI on an older truck or am I the only one who waited this long?
How old is the truck and did you ever check the actual chart that came with it against a scale test? The reason I ask is those old factory charts were written for a bare boom and stock counterweight, so once someone adds a jib, a bucket, or extra counterweight over the years, the numbers drift and nobody ever updates the paper. Your LMI was probably right and the chart you trusted for years was the thing that was off. That 82 percent alarm might have saved you from a tip that day, but it also means every pick you made before this was riding on bad math. Worth doing a quick check on the whole chart now that you know.
