Manager wanted me to ignore a load chart change

He told me the change was small and we were late. I held my ground, and we found the soil was too soft.

You know what gets me, managers forget that a small delay now is nothing compared to the cost of fixing a big screw up later. They just see the clock, not the real math.

Last summer on a construction site in Manchester, the foreman wanted to skip the pre-pour check due to time pressure. I said we had to look at the base first, and sure enough, the gravel was spread too thin. Pouring over that would have led to major cracks within a year. He was annoyed about losing half a day, but it prevented a warranty nightmare later. Those little rules exist for a reason, even when they seem like a hassle. It's scary how close we came to a big mistake.

My old foreman would've skipped checks until I saw @henryf53's post.
