My critique partner made me rewrite my first chapter 7 times
She sat me down at a coffee shop in Brooklyn and told me 'your main character is just watching things happen, she's not doing anything.' I was defensive at first but then I read it out loud and realized she was right. Anyone else have a single piece of feedback that completely changed how you approach a scene?

Ugh yeah I read something the other day about how the most useful feedback is the stuff that actually hurts a little. Guess that's the price of getting better at anything.

@luna519 nailed it, the sting is usually the part that's actually useful. Though I'd argue the best feedback is the stuff that makes you stop and rethink, not just the stuff that bruises your ego - know what I mean?
