Unpopular opinion: All this hype about new security apps. Remember when a strong password you actually knew was enough? I think we overcomplicate things now.

Honestly, that story about your buddy is a perfect example of something bigger. It feels like everything needs more guardrails now because the downsides got so much worse (and the people trying to cause trouble got more tools). Remember when locking your front door was enough? Now lots of folks have cameras and motion lights too. It's not that doors got weaker, but the risk and the hassle of a break-in got way higher. The password thing is the same digital shift.

Yeah, after hearing willowc60's story, my old password of "password123" feels like leaving my keys in the door.

What's the worst that could happen with a simple password? My buddy used the same one for everything, a combo of his kid's name and birthday. Someone got into his email, then his bank account, and it was a whole mess for months trying to prove it wasn't him. He had to close accounts and get new cards for everything. Watching that happen made me see why all the extra security layers exist now, even if it feels like a pain.
