My toaster tried to sell me life insurance during breakfast

Last Tuesday at 6:30 AM, my 5-year-old toaster started beeping in a pattern that sounded suspiciously like Morse code for 'buy now'. I stood there with my bagel halfway in, and it popped out with a little paper slip that said 'Your warranty expired, but your will probably hasn't'. Has anyone else had a kitchen appliance go full scam artist on them, or should I just unplug it and call it a day?

Have you considered the toaster might be trying to warn you about something bigger than insurance? Like, maybe it knows the toaster industry is about to get hit with a massive recall or something, and it's just trying to secure your financial future before you have to spend all your money on a new fridge. My microwave started announcing "press start to continue" every time I walked past, and then it turned out the power company was doing surge testing in the area. Maybe these appliances are picking up on some weird local energy thing and this is their way of processing it. Either way, I'd check your home warranty for any weird clauses about appliances being sentient before you unplug it.
