I finally caved and started using a pop filter for my phone mic

I always thought pop filters were just for YouTube wannabes until last week when I recorded a quick voice memo on my iPhone and the 'p' sounds literally clipped the audio to static. Grabbed a cheap $8 foam cover from Target and now my recordings sound clean even when I'm excited. Anybody else had bad plosives ruin a recording?

You mentioned "bad plosives ruin a recording" but honestly I think a little pop noise adds character. I've been recording voice notes for years without any filter and the occasional thump just makes it feel more human. Those foam covers muffle the high end too much for my taste, sounds like I'm talking through a pillow. I'll take a static pop over a dead sounding recording any day.

I got the opposite experience honestly. That foam cover killed all the liveliness in my recordings. Voice notes sounded flat and boxy, like I was recording from inside a sock. Pulled it off after two days.
