Best session I've had in 14 months of running my campaign

Last Friday my group finally finished the siege arc we've been building toward since January, and it all came together in one night. I rolled a random encounter table during the climax and got a red dragon wyrmling showing up mid-battle, which threw my whole plan out the window but made the players go wild. The paladin used a dust of sneezing on it and the thing failed its save, so they took it down in 3 rounds while still holding the gates. Has anyone else had a random roll completely save or ruin a session that you'd prepped for weeks?

Did anyone else's dice ever roll so hot they killed the plot hook before the players noticed it existed?
