Hot take: the feedback I got on my last piece about lighting was brutal but actually useful lol

Some guy in the critique thread said my shadows looked like they were painted by someone who's never seen a real shadow before, which stung but he wasn't wrong haha. I spent 3 hours last night studying reference photos and redoing the lighting layer on my cityscape piece and it made way more sense. Has anyone else had a critique that completely changed how they approach a specific part of their art?

Must be nice getting a critique that only roasted one thing instead of the whole painting like it owes you money. Three different shadow directions is just the universe telling you to embrace chaos lighting, Lily. Guess we're all just out here learning that shadows are harder than they look on social media.

Changed my whole view on lighting too after someone pointed out my moon was casting shadows in three different directions.
