Packing my whole life into a 40L bag for 2 years straight

I was in a Bangkok cafe, trying to work while my laptop cord kept falling out of a loose outlet. My partner looked over and said, 'You know, we could just buy a local adapter here for like 3 bucks.' I'd been carrying this heavy universal adapter for 18 months, scared I wouldn't find the right plug. That was the moment I realized I was packing for problems I could solve on the ground. Has anyone else ditched a 'just in case' item that actually made travel easier?

Oh man, that adapter story hits so close to home. I had a similar moment when I realized I'd been carrying a massive first aid kit for 2 years and never used a single thing from it except band-aids. Finally ditched it for a tiny pouch with just the basics and my bag got so much lighter. It's wild how we pack for worst case scenarios that rarely happen. Good on you for having that wake up call - it really does change how you see everything.
