Ran into a former coworker in a coffee shop in Medellin and it changed how I think about client work

I was working from a cafe in Laureles last week and saw this guy I used to work with at a marketing agency back in 2019. He told me he quit the 9-5 and now just does 3 retainer clients a month for $5k each, nothing else. He said 'stop trying to win every project, just pick the ones that pay you well and respect your time.' It hit different hearing it from someone who actually made it work, not some guru on YouTube. Anyone else had a random run in like that that shifted how you approach your nomad hustle?

Wait, you mean your buddy didn't have to do any real work for that? I got a friend who landed a similar gig doing IT support for this startup, but it was 4k a month and he had to be on call 24/7, which basically meant he couldn't go anywhere without his laptop, lol. @julia92 you're right though, getting that kind of cash just for existing is wild, like a cheat code for life. My friend ended up quitting after three months because the stress of always being available wasn't worth the money, even with that fat paycheck. Guess it really depends on what you're trading for the cash, you know?
