My wife told me I was loading bowls all wrong and now I'm not sure what to believe

I've been loading my dishwasher the same way for 20 years. Bowls always go on the bottom rack facing up, plates on the side facing inward. Last week my wife watched me and said bowls should face down on the top rack so water drains off them. She said mine always come out with a puddle in the bottom. I never noticed. I tried it her way and now half my bowls don't get clean on the inside because the spray doesn't hit them right. Which is the correct way? Facing up on bottom or down on top?

Yeah I've been through this exact thing. Bowls on the bottom facing up means they trap water and don't dry right, I learned that the hard way too. The trick is bowls on the top rack angled down so they get sprayed AND drain. Just make sure nothing is blocking the spray arm underneath them, sometimes a big bowl will sit too low and block the spin. If you're getting half clean bowls, you might need to check that the top rack isn't overloaded and your water pressure is hot enough.

@lee.diana is right about the spray arm clearance, that one got me too with a big mixing bowl that just sat there spinning nothing. Reracking bowls sideways on the top rack fixed it for me more than angling them down.
