Thought my dishwasher was dying. Turns out I was just loading it wrong for 10 years.
My old dishwasher started leaving grit on everything last month. I was about to call a repair guy when my buddy from work came over to help with something else and saw me loading it. He pointed out that I was putting all my bowls flat and nesting them together so the jets couldn't hit the inside surfaces. We pulled out the bottom rack and there was a solid layer of crud under the spinning arm too. I spent an hour cleaning the filter and rearranging everything so water could actually flow between dishes. First load after that came out spotless. I felt like an idiot but also saved myself a $150 service call. Anyone else find out years in that they missed something obvious with their machine?

Hang on, do you really think loading it differently was the whole fix though? I've seen this argument before and I'm not totally sold that it's always user error. Sometimes those spin arms just get clogged up with hard water scale or a random piece of plastic gets stuck in the filter, and rearranging dishes won't fix that. Feels like most people find out they've been overloading or underloading for years and the machine was fine the whole time.
