Hit 1,000 miles this morning and my chain finally gave up

Was out on my usual Sunday ride, doing the 30 mile loop near the river. Made it to mile 23 when my chain snapped clean in two, right after I passed that old railroad bridge. I've been tracking my miles on a basic app since January, and turns out that was the exact moment I hit 1,000 miles for the year. Didn't think that little number would line up with a mechanical failure, but now I'm stuck walking home with a broken chain and a new milestone I can't even celebrate. Anyone else have something break right when you hit a random number you were tracking?

Man that is SO rough. I feel for you walking home with a broken chain, that's the WORST way to end a ride. At least you got a solid story out of it though, 1,000 miles is still 1,000 miles even if the universe decided to give you a little parting gift.

My chain snapped at exactly 856 miles last March and I actually think that's the best way to hit a milestone. You remember the number way better because it's tied to a specific event not just some random app notification. I still know my 500 mile mark was when my rear derailleur got bent on a rock. Nobody cares about a clean round number but a breakdown makes a story people actually want to hear. Walking home sucks for a day but you get a good tale out of it forever.
