That $30 pour-over cone I bought was a complete waste of cash

I spent like 6 months using a fancy ceramic V60 and $18 bags of single-origin beans, thinking I was some kind of coffee snob. Then my buddy Dave just showed up with a $5 plastic cone from the grocery store and his coffee tasted exactly as good as mine. I did a blind taste test with my wife and honestly couldn't tell the difference between my setup and his basic one. Anyone else get suckered into thinking expensive gear actually matters for cheap coffee upgrades?

Right! Plastic one works just the same and lasts fine if you treat it decent.

You're missing the point - that plastic cone might taste the same but it'll crack in six months while the ceramic one lasts forever. The real value isn't in making better coffee, it's in not having to replace your gear every year. Cheap plastic is fine until it's not, then you're buying another one.
