Vent: My French press broke and I tried a cheap Moka pot instead
So my French press finally gave up after 3 years of daily use, the metal mesh just tore. I was in a pinch last Saturday and grabbed a $12 Moka pot from the grocery store down the street. Figured how bad could it be, right? Wrong. The first brew came out super bitter and I had no idea what I was doing, just filled the bottom and hoped for the best. After looking it up I realized you need to grind your beans way finer than drip coffee for it to work. I also burned my hand on the metal handle cause I forgot a towel, lol. Has anyone else had a rough transition from one coffee method to another like this?

Oh man, "super bitter and had no idea what I was doing" is basically my coffee journey summed up. I read somewhere that Moka pots actually need a coarser grind than espresso but finer than drip, and you gotta fill the basket even, not packed down. I burned my hand the first time too, those metal handles are no joke, a dish towel is a must.
