Warning: stop shaking your cinnamon jar directly into your cheap drip coffee
I did that for 3 months and wondered why my morning cup tasted like dusty sawdust, but once I started grinding a whole cinnamon stick in my blade grinder with the beans for 10 seconds it actually tastes like real bakery coffee, anyone else been guilty of this?

And honestly I've been grinding whole cinnamon sticks in my blade grinder for two years now and it's still going strong, so maybe you just got a cheap piece of junk. A little dusting of metal shavings probably adds some extra minerals to my morning brew.

Grinding a whole cinnamon stick in a blade grinder with beans is actually a good way to ruin the blade grinder, lol. Those little blades are meant for beans, not hard woody spices. You'll dull the blade way faster and get metal dust in your coffee. I used to do the same thing and my grinder started sounding like a dying blender. You're better off breaking the stick into tiny pieces with a hammer first, then grinding them separately in a cheap spice grinder. Mix the powder into the grounds after brewing, or just shake a little into the filter before adding beans. Also, whole cinnamon sticks have oils that can gum up the grinder over time, so just a heads up if you want that grinder to last more than six months.
