Warning: That $40 firehose braid rope I bought for tug toys started fraying after 3 days

Honestly, I thought I was being smart getting a heavy-duty rope from the hardware store instead of paying $15 for a small one at PetSmart. But after my pit mix Chewy went through 4 tug sessions the fibers were shedding everywhere and I spent an hour picking red strands out of his teeth. Stick to the cotton or fleece braids from the community pattern swap, they last way longer and don't break down like this stuff. Has anyone else tried the firehose material and had the same issue?

Just be careful with cotton too, it rots fast when it gets wet.

rots fast when it gets wet" - wait, seriously? I've been using cotton braided ropes from the pattern swap for like two years and never had one rot. Are you leaving them out in the rain or something? Because I just toss Chewy's tug ropes in the laundry basket when they get slobbery and they come out fine. Maybe it depends on the thickness or how tight the braid is? Either way, I'm shook you had that problem because cotton's been bulletproof for me. If yours are rotting, you might have gotten a bad batch or something weird with the dye.
