Rant: My dog's favorite squeaky toy failed mid-throw at the park yesterday

The squeaker popped out and my golden retriever swallowed it in one gulp before I could grab it, so I spent the next 20 minutes trying to coax him to drop it while everyone stared at me.

You're upset about "spent the next 20 minutes trying to coax him to drop it" like that's some kind of crisis. I've seen golden retrievers swallow whole socks, tennis balls, and once a neighbor's flip flop, and they all came out the other end just fine eventually. Your dog didn't choke or need surgery, so what's the big deal? Twenty minutes of coaxing sounds like a normal day with a golden retriever, not a rant-worthy event. Maybe next time just let him have the squeaker and call it a free toy upgrade.
