Rant: The day a nervous Great Dane stole my sandwich at the dog park in Austin

I'm sitting on a bench at Zilker Park last Tuesday, unwrapping a turkey sub from that deli on South Congress, and this giant gray Great Dane just walks over, snatches it out of my hand, and swallows the whole thing in two seconds flat. The owner runs up yelling 'sorry sorry sorry' but the dog is already licking mustard off the grass, and now I'm out $11 and my lunch break is a bust. How do you guys deal with food-stealing dogs at the park without making a scene or losing your meal?

Reminds me of the time I was at a cookout in Round Rock and a golden retriever swiped my burger right off the plate before I even sat down. The owner just laughed and said "he's a rescue with good taste," lol.

Man that's rough, I've been there myself actually. Had a big ol' labrador down in San Marcos sneak my plate of brisket right off the tailgate while I was grabbing a drink. The owner barely blinked, just said "he's food motivated" like it was some kind of compliment to the dog. At least that golden retriever had taste though, could've been a hot dog or something cheap. Sometimes you just gotta laugh it off even when you're standing there hungry with an empty plate.
