A buddy in the framing crew told me I was wasting 20 minutes a day walking back for forgotten nails

He showed me his vest setup with a magnetic pouch on the left hip for fasteners and a slot for the gun on the right, and after trying it for one shift I realized how much time I was burning just shuffling around, so has anyone else had a simple gear tweak like that cut down your garage build time?

I switched from a standard tool belt to a simple apron with a magnet bar on the front for screws and a small hammer loop on the side. Used to spend half my time digging through pouches or walking back to the workbench for something I forgot. That one change saved me probably 15 minutes a day, and I don't have to stop and untangle straps anymore. It's funny how a little thing like where you keep your tools can make the whole day feel smoother.

That's just how most efficiency gains work in practice. Ten tiny fixes add up to way more than one big overhaul. Same thing happens with cooking - moving your salt bowl next to the stove or keeping your most used spices on a magnetic strip saves seconds every time you reach for them, and over a month that's real time saved. Or in the shop, a cheap magnetic dish for screws instead of picking them up off the floor constantly. People overlook the small friction points because they don't seem like a big deal on their own, but they're the ones that wear you down over the course of a day.
