A guy in a Spokane boatyard told me I was crazy for running my cutterhead at 28 RPM, said it was 'asking for a twist-off'.

Honestly, what's his basis for saying that? Tbh, 28 RPM is pretty standard for a lot of setups if you've got the right torque behind it. Ngl, sounds like he's just repeating shop talk without the actual experience.

Yeah, what's the actual application here? I ran a 28 RPM motor on a conveyor for years with zero issues, it just needed a solid gearbox. The guy might be reading specs without understanding how load and gearing change everything. Some people just parrot numbers they heard once.
