Blew a hydraulic line on the Mississippi last Tuesday - what a mess

I was working a job near Baton Rouge last week and about 10 AM a fitting just let go on my dredge. Hydraulic fluid sprayed everywhere, all over the deck and into the water. Took me a solid 4 hours to clean it up and get a replacement line from a parts shop 30 miles away. My buddy said I should have kept spare fittings onboard, which is fair but I never had one blow like that before. Anyone else keep a full set of backup hydraulic parts on their rig?

@willowc60 nailed it. Milk crate with spare hoses and fittings is the way to go. I keep mine in a sealed ammo can bolted under the gunnel stays dry and doesn't get in the way. Saves you a four hour parts run every time.

Man that's a rough day right there. Hydraulic fluid on the deck is slick as ice and a nightmare to scrub off, let alone worrying about what got into the water. I always keep a couple spare hoses and fittings in a milk crate bolted to the side of my engine housing, learned that the hard way after a blowout on the Ohio River back in 2019.
