My old boss told me to run the cutter head at full speed in that thick clay near Mobile

Ignored him and kept it at 70%, and we didn't clog once over a 12-hour shift. He called it a waste of fuel, but I saved us a full day of downtime. Anyone have a good rule of thumb for cutter speeds in different bottom types?

Used to think full throttle too, learned the hard way.

My old boss always said the throttle has a sweet spot around 70%.

Try finding that sweet spot in reverse, coasting down a long hill.
