Old timer in Baton Rouge convinced me to ditch my digital draft gauge
I used to rely on my fancy electronic draft gauge for every dredge cut, thinking it was the only way to get precise depth readings. Then about 8 months ago, a 30-year veteran named Roy at a job on the Mississippi River told me to try a manual pressure gauge instead. He showed me how the digital ones can lag when you hit sudden changes in material, like that soft clay pocket I ran into last spring. Now I check both, but I set my cuts based on the manual one and I haven't overshot a grade since. Anyone else swapped out their gear based on an old hand's advice?
